12 MYTHS THAT COULD WRECK YOUR GOLF GAME

1. Do I need custom fit clubs?
Maybe not. In fact you may only need lessons to improve your ball striking abilities. Fundamental fixes such as proper swing path and hip rotation may significantly improve your game. On the first evaluation, we will look at a few swings and take some measurements to quickly determine whether or not you need custom fit clubs or some lessons to improve your golf fundamentals. Once you have figured out your golf swing, only then will we be able to provide you with properly fit clubs that match your swing. Why fit golf clubs to a messed up swing. You would just be wasting money.

2. Will custom fit clubs make me a better golfer?
As with the previous point, golf lessons will be the best way to improve your golf game. What custom fit golf clubs will do is eliminate the hardware error in your golf game. Even if you have a perfect golf swing, having an incorrect length of a club or incorrect lie will deter you from hitting the golf ball solidly and squarely. Custom fit clubs will match your natural swing and playing style. In addition, custom fit clubs will fill in the weakness gap of your game. An example is if you do not have a powerful golf swing, we can apply available technological advances in the golf equipment that will increase distance and accuracy. Custom fit clubs will provide you with the right tools to improve your game.

"Custom fit clubs will not necessarily make you a better golfer, but improper equipment won't help you either."

3. How do I know custom fit clubs will actually help my game?
One quick example of how custom fit clubs will help your game is the driver. People spend hundreds of dollars every year buying the latest technology to help them increase their driving distance. Since the major clubmakers have started marketing the concept of using lower lofted clubs because logic would tell you if you keep the ball low and hit it straight forward, the ball will go farther. This is true if you have high swing speeds in the upper 120+ mph swing. Te reverse is actually true, for someone with a slower swing speed, a higher lofted club will increase your distance. Think of watering your yard with a garden hose. If you want the water to go farther, you point the nozzle higher and create a big arch. If you point it too high, the water will not go very far and if you point it too low, it will not reach the plant. The job of the fitter is to determine the right loft to match your swing style to maximize the distance of your drives.

4. How much will custom fit clubs cost?
The misconception that most people have is that custom fit golf clubs are going to cost a fortune. In fact, in most cases custom fit clubs will cost less than brand name clubs. The clubmaker has the ability to work within the golfer's budget. Clubmakers have access to purchase quality components and can give you only the things you want. Because individual clubmakers do not have major advertising costs and celebrity sponsorship, the clubmaker has the ability to pass along actual hardware costs to you. Brand name clubs make you pay for all the advertising costs they have in sponsoring PGA tour pros and magazine advertisements.

5. Aren't custom clubs cheaply made or just knockoffs?
As with all disciplines, there are those who market knockoffs and inferior products. What people do not know is that the components that professional clubmakers have access to are made in the same factories as those of brand name clubs. There are only a handful of factories that make clubheads and professional clubmakers will purchase from sources that are respectable and reliable. The majority of professional clubmakers have dealt with many dealers and have communicated to each other which dealers are reputable and those that are not. As a member of the Professional Clubmakers Society, we will provide you with quality components from reputable dealers and still be able to work with almost any reasonable budget. Every member of BAHL plays with the stuff we sell. We are golf fanatics and if we won't play with inferior equipment, we won't sell it.
